About Foz do Iguaçu



   City with around 309 thousand inhabitants, Foz do Iguassu is characterized by its cultural diversity. They are 71 ethnical groups; the most representative ones are from Lebanon, China, Paraguay and Argentina. Foz do Iguassu borders with the Argentinean city Puerto Iguazú and with the Paraguayan city Ciudad del Este.
   The base of the city’s economy is tourism, with a highlight for the commerce and services.
   In a survey by EMBRATUR, in the segment "Leisure", in 2004 and 2005 Foz do Iguassu was considered as the 2º destination most visited Web Site by foreign tourists, just behind Rio de Janeiro. In the segment "Business", Foz turns to be the 6º place in 2004 and 8° in 2005, whereas in the segment "Other reasons" has the 5th position in the researched two years.

Population:
   Foz do Iguassu has a very varied and interesting ethnical composition, with an estimate population today of 309.113 inhabitants. The city holds 71 of the 192 nationalities in the world. Walking by the streets of the city it is no surprise to find Japanese, Chinese, Korean, French, Bolivian and Chilean people, Arabs, Portuguese, Hindus, Israelis and people from many other nationalities, besides Paraguayans and Argentinean. The different ethnical groups living in the city turn Foz do Iguassu in one of the most cosmopolitan cities of Brazil.
